A young woman was allegedly sexually harassed in broad daylight near her PG in Ullal after rejecting a love proposal from an Instagram acquaintance; police have registered an FIR and launched a manhunt for the accused.

A disturbing incident of alleged sexual harassment has been reported from Bengaluru, highlighting the risks linked to online friendships. The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Jnanabharathi Police Station and occurred near Ullal Main Road, close to Jnanajyothinagar.

According to the complaint, the victim, a young woman staying in a private paying guest (PG) accommodation, was allegedly harassed on the road right in front of her PG. The incident took place at around 3.20 pm on the 22nd afternoon, when the accused reportedly arrived at the spot in a car and confronted her.

The accused has been identified as Naveen Kumar, who first came in contact with the woman through Instagram on September 30, 2024. What initially began as an online friendship gradually turned into frequent meetings near Nagarabhavi. Over time, the accused allegedly started pressuring the woman to accept his love proposal.

When the woman refused, the accused allegedly began harassing her persistently. Despite her clear rejection, he continued to follow her, including coming near her PG premises. Even after the woman quit her telecaller job and stayed mostly at the PG, the harassment reportedly continued.

On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly intercepted her near the PG, touched her inappropriately, tore her clothes, and continued the assault despite her screaming for help. The woman reportedly raised an alarm, but the accused did not stop and created a scene on the road.

The complaint states that the harassment was driven by the accused’s insistence that she must enter into a romantic relationship with him under the guise of friendship. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety, especially for young women who connect with strangers through social media platforms.

Following the complaint, Jnanabharathi police registered an FIR in the case. A search operation has been launched, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused.

Following the incident of sexual harassment, the young woman vacated her paying guest (PG) accommodation.

After the assault that took place on the afternoon of the 22nd, the woman immediately moved out of the PG. Over the past six months, she had changed four to five PG accommodations, frequently shifting locations due to continuous harassment.

For the last two months, she had been staying at Sai Baba PG. About a week before the incident, the accused, Naveen Kumar, had created a disturbance on the road outside the PG. Following this, the PG owners asked the woman to vacate the premises, citing repeated trouble near the property.

Despite changing PGs, the accused reportedly continued to track her movements and harass her wherever she stayed. Due to persistent harassment by Naveen Kumar, the woman had also quit her job as a telecaller.

At one point, the victim had called her friend Priya to collect her pending salary. Priya was already familiar with Naveen Kumar, adding to the woman’s anxiety. She was reportedly living in constant fear due to the accused’s behaviour and avoided staying at the PG for long hours.

Meanwhile, the Jnanabharathi police have taken the accused Naveen Kumar into custody. He is currently being intensively interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.a
