  • Relief for Sahakarnagar and Yelahanka commuters
  • Airport route congestion expected to reduce

After prolonged delays, NHAI has opened the Jakkur service road, offering major relief to commuters from Sahakarnagar and Yelahanka by separating local traffic from high-speed airport-bound vehicles.

In a significant improvement to Bengaluru’s northern road infrastructure, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed and opened the long-pending service road at Jakkur. The development is expected to bring much-needed relief to commuters who regularly travel towards Kempegowda International Airport.

The Jakkur stretch has for years been a major traffic choke point due to an unorganised merge of local vehicles and fast-moving highway traffic. Commuters from Sahakarnagar and Yelahanka frequently faced long delays and safety concerns as local traffic was forced to mix with airport-bound vehicles moving at high speeds.

With the service road now operational, local commuters can bypass the main highway, ensuring smoother movement and reducing the risk of accidents. Officials say the road has been designed to clearly segregate neighbourhood traffic from National Highway vehicles, a long-standing demand of residents in the area.

The project had witnessed several delays due to land-related and execution challenges, adding to public frustration. Its completion now marks a major step towards decongesting one of the most problematic junctions on the airport corridor.

Daily commuters believe the new service road will significantly cut travel time during peak hours and improve overall traffic discipline on the stretch. The opening is also expected to enhance connectivity for residential areas around Jakkur, while allowing uninterrupted movement for vehicles heading to and from the airport.
