A rescued dog named Bongo has disappeared, triggering a citywide poster campaign and allegations that the adoptive owners abandoned the pet after having a child.

A mysterious missing dog case has gripped Bengaluru as ‘Justice for Bongo’ posters have appeared across several localities, urging citizens to help trace a rescued pet who is now untraceable. The situation has sparked emotional debates and serious accusations involving the dog’s adoptive owners.

Four years ago, in JP Nagar, animal lover Swarnima rescued a severely injured stray dog who had been hit by a vehicle and left struggling on the road. She nursed the dog back to health and named him Bongo. For her, he wasn’t just a rescued animal, he became family.

Swarnima later gave Bongo for adoption to a couple, led by a man identified as Anubhav Kabra, who told her they had no children and wanted to raise Bongo “like their own baby.” Believing the story, she handed over the dog with trust and assurance.

But according to the FIR now filed at the Puttannahalli Police Station, things changed drastically after the couple had a child. Swarnima alleges that the adoptive family abandoned Bongo, and she fears he may have even been harmed.

Her suspicion grew when the couple reportedly stopped responding to her queries and gave inconsistent explanations about Bongo’s whereabouts. This led to her filing a formal complaint demanding action.

To accelerate the search, Swarnima has put up posters across Bengaluru with Bongo’s photo, announcing a cash reward of ₹5,000 to ₹25,000 for anyone who finds him or shares reliable information.

Despite widespread visibility, there is no clue yet whether Bongo is alive or dead. The uncertainty has led to widespread outrage among animal lovers, who argue that if the family could no longer care for him, they should have returned him rather than abandoning him on the streets.

The dilemma echoes a larger concern in Bengaluru:

Is it fair to adopt a helpless animal and later discard it when life circumstances change?
