K-Ride gave social security certificates to Suburban Rail Project-affected families, ensuring aid, insurance, relocation, and skill training

Bengaluru’s ambitious Suburban Rail Project has taken a significant step toward inclusive development with the distribution of social security certificates to affected residents. Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-Ride) Managing Director Laxman Singh handed over the certificates to slum dwellers, squatters, and workers impacted by the project, assuring them of fair compensation and livelihood restoration.

Singh emphasized that integrating social security measures is vital to ensure that community’s benefit alongside infrastructure growth. He noted that the Suburban Rail Project will ease urban transport, reduce congestion, and strengthen regional connectivity, while also safeguarding the rights of displaced families.

During the preparatory phase, a comprehensive census and socio-economic survey under the Resettlement Action Plan identified 263 affected persons within 1.2 km of Corridor-2 in Lingarajpur and Banaswadi. This included 100 notified residents and 163 informal settlers. In collaboration with the Karnataka Slum Development Board, eligible families were informed of their entitlements, consulted, and provided financial assistance. Many voluntarily relocated after receiving support.

The program also featured guidance from resource persons on skill development and entrepreneurship opportunities. Representatives from the State Level Bankers Committee explained central and state social security schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Suraksha Bhima Yojana, and Jeevan Jyoti Yojana. Each beneficiary will receive six layers of insurance coverage, ensuring financial protection.

Officials highlighted that rehabilitation plans are being implemented comprehensively, with beneficiaries gaining access to both financial aid and long-term social security. Singh praised the cooperation of affected communities and stressed the importance of timely project completion in the public interest.

K-Ride reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, ensuring that the Suburban Rail Project not only transforms Bengaluru’s transport landscape but also supports the welfare of those impacted.
