Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw slammed IndiGo’s premium in-flight “Stretch” gourmet menu as “tasteless and uninviting,” urging the airline and its partner Oberoi to rethink their culinary offerings. IndiGo’s response sparked a wave of online reactions.
Bengaluru-based entrepreneur and Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has sparked a viral food debate after taking a dig at IndiGo Airlines’ ‘Stretch’ gourmet cuisine, calling it “tasteless and uninviting.” Sharing a picture of the airline’s premium in-flight meal, Shaw expressed her disappointment, saying she preferred IndiGo’s regular menu items instead.

The shared menu featured German lentil and feta salad with beetroot galouti, lavash with cream cheese yogurt dip, thandai tres leches cake, and mixed nuts with pink salt and pepper. Shaw’s critique quickly caught the attention of IndiGo, which responded by assuring her of improvements: “Rest assured, we’ll work closely with our partner, the Oberoi, to refine our offerings and make your future journeys even more delightful.”
However, IndiGo’s reply seemed to misread Shaw’s tone, saying they were “delighted to know she enjoyed the Stretch experience”, an ironic twist that drew laughter online.
