Kogilu land grab case: Two arrested, police seek custody to probe larger encroachment racket

Police arrest two key accused in the Kogilu Layout land encroachment case and intensify the search for remaining suspects under the Land Grabbing Prohibition Act.

The investigation into the Kogilu Layout land encroachment case has gained momentum with the arrest of two accused allegedly involved in the illegal occupation of government land near Kogilu Layout in Yelahanka.

The arrested persons have been identified as Wasim Ulla Baig and Vijay Kumar. Yelahanka police took both accused into custody and produced them before a court, which granted police custody for further interrogation for a period of 14 days.

The case was registered at the Yelahanka police station under Sections 192(A)(1) and 192(B) of the Karnataka Land Revenue (KLR) Act, along with provisions of the Land Grabbing Prohibition Act. The charges relate to alleged unauthorised occupation of government land and attempts to illegally convert and encroach upon the property.

Police officials stated that the accused played a key role in facilitating and executing the land encroachment near Kogilu Layout. The investigation revealed that government land was targeted for illegal occupation, prompting authorities to initiate action under strict land protection laws.

A total of four accused have been named in the FIR registered by Yelahanka police. While Vijay Kumar and Wasim Ulla Baig have been arrested, police are actively searching for the remaining two accused identified as Robin and Muni Anjinappa.

Officials said the investigation against land grabbers is ongoing and further arrests are likely as police continue to examine records, identify links, and trace the extent of the encroachment. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against all those involved in illegal land grabbing.

Yelahanka police have intensified the probe into the Kogilu land encroachment case following the arrest of two accused, Bengaluru East Zone Additional Commissioner of Police Ramesh Banoth said. He stated that illegal houses built on government land near Kogilu were cleared on the 20th of last month. During the subsequent verification, it emerged that certain individuals had allegedly cheated people by promising to allot plots at the site. 

The case involves allegations of encroachment of government land as well as cheating. Based on these findings, a case was registered and two accused were arrested, with further investigation underway. Police are also verifying documents allegedly given to residents and examining whether forged records were used. Officials are collecting details on how many people were cheated, how much money was taken, and the nature of the documents involved. Those affected have been asked to come forward and file complaints.

Banoth clarified that no political links have been found so far and said the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the illegal activities.
