The former Rajya Sabha MP calls for unity across political lines and demands 360° connectivity, PRR, arterial corridors, and rapid Metro-Suburban Rail expansion to secure Bengaluru’s economic future.
Former Rajya Sabha MP Kupendra Reddy has issued a strong public appeal urging Karnataka’s political leadership to urgently address Bengaluru’s mobility crisis before it threatens the city’s long-standing status as India’s “economic powerhouse.” His statement, shared on social media, highlights the scale of transformation the city has undergone and the risks it now faces.
Reddy pointed out that since 2004, Bengaluru has expanded from 300 sq. km to 880 sq. km, with its population rising sharply. As the city enters a new era driven by AI and advanced technologies, he warned that India must ensure Bengaluru remains the hub for the next wave of global innovation, rather than allowing the country to fall behind or become economically dependent on other nations.

To secure this future, Reddy stressed the need for comprehensive 360° connectivity, including the long-delayed Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), stronger internal arterial corridors, and rapid execution of Metro and Suburban Rail. He emphasised that these must be implemented on a war footing, given the urgency of the city’s traffic challenges.
Bengaluru has been India’s economic powerhouse for the last few decades. Since 2004, the city has expanded from 300 sq. km to 880 sq. km, and its population has risen exponentially.

With the arrival of AI and advanced technologies, we stand on the cusp of a new era, one that…
According to him, Bengaluru’s chronic congestion and declining global perception could weaken its ability to attract talent, investment and high-value jobs, just as Indian startups have previously disrupted global giants. Reddy warned that if mobility does not improve, companies and talent may shift away with similar speed.
Calling this a decisive moment, the former MP urged both the government and opposition to work together, rise above political differences, and prioritise Bengaluru’s long-term future. He tagged key leaders including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar, former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, and Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Ashwini Vaishnaw, stressing that safeguarding Bengaluru’s growth is a shared responsibility.
Reddy concluded that only united action can protect Bengaluru’s role as the centre of India’s technological leadership.
