  • Govt notifies 369 total wards for the GBA
  • Five Bengaluru corporations get final ward breakup
  • Reservation pending before election announcement

With the final ward structure approved across all five new city corporations, only reservation allotment remains before the first GBA elections can be announced.

The Karnataka government has issued the final notification for the formation of 369 wards under the new Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), marking a major step toward conducting elections for the newly reorganised urban governance system.

The final ward structure covers five separate city corporations, each functioning under the GBA umbrella. With this notification, the long-pending ward map has been settled, clearing the path for the next major step, finalising ward-wise reservation, which will directly determine when the elections can be held.

According to the notification, the Bengaluru West City Corporation has seen the biggest reshuffle, with the number of wards increased by one, raising its total to 112 wards. Earlier drafts had proposed 368 wards across the city, but the government added one more to the western limits, bringing the final count to 369.

The complete ward distribution is as follows:

•    Bengaluru Central City Corporation: 63 wards finalised
•    Bengaluru East City Corporation: 50 wards
•    Bengaluru West City Corporation: 112 wards
•    Bengaluru North City Corporation: 72 wards
•    Bengaluru South City Corporation: 72 wards

These ward numbers were revised and finalised by the Urban Development Department, which earlier issued a draft map but has now given its official confirmation through a government notification.

With boundaries fixed, the only pending step is the ward reservation list, which will allocate seats to SC, ST, OBC, women, and general categories. Once the reservation matrix is published, the government is expected to notify the first-ever GBA election schedule, formally activating the new local governance model for Bengaluru. The GBA polls are likely to scheduled in Feb-March.

Officials indicate that the reservation list will be completed soon, after which election preparations will move into their final stage.
