A BMTC bus caught fire near Bengaluru’s HAL Signal on Monday morning, leaving the vehicle completely charred. Swift action by the driver saved all 62 passengers onboard.

A major accident was narrowly averted in Bengaluru on Monday morning when a BMTC bus suddenly caught fire near HAL Signal, sending passengers into panic. The bus, carrying 62 commuters, was on its regular route when smoke was first noticed from the rear.

Acting with presence of mind, the driver immediately brought the bus to a halt and instructed passengers to evacuate. Within moments, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the entire bus in flames. Miraculously, all passengers escaped unharmed before the blaze intensified.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing crackling sounds as thick smoke and flames rose from the vehicle, causing traffic to come to a standstill in the busy junction. Local residents and other motorists initially attempted to douse the fire but were unable to bring it under control. Firefighters soon arrived at the spot and managed to extinguish the flames after a tense few minutes.

By the time the fire was put out, the bus was reduced to a charred metal shell. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and BMTC senior officials have launched an investigation to determine whether a mechanical fault, electrical short-circuit, or overheating caused the incident.
