Massive flight disruptions hit Bengaluru airport as IndiGo cancels 42 services

Passengers face widespread delays and cancellations as operational issues trigger two days of flight disruptions at Kempegowda International Airport.

Flight operations at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport were heavily disrupted on December 3, with IndiGo cancelling 42 flights in a single day. The cancellations included 22 incoming flights and 20 outgoing services, affecting major routes linked to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow.

This disruption came just a day after 20 IndiGo flights were cancelled on December 2, adding to passenger inconvenience during an already busy travel period. Sources at the airport indicated that the cancellations were linked to operational challenges. These ranged from technical issues in aircraft to congestion-related delays and other internal requirements that prevented normal scheduling.

IndiGo stated that the airline had been facing unavoidable delays and cancellations over the past several days. The airline highlighted technical problems in some aircraft and increased airport congestion as key reasons behind the disruptions. Teams were deployed to stabilise operations, with affected passengers being offered refunds or alternate flight options.

The impact was felt across terminals as many travellers took to social media to express frustration over last-minute changes and extended waiting hours. Several passengers reported receiving notifications only shortly before their scheduled departure or arrival.

On the same day, additional delays were reported in Air India Express operations. Three flights from Bengaluru to Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Nagpur were delayed on December 2 due to technical issues, further adding to the congestion at departure gates.
