Senior BJP MLA Suresh Kumar managed traffic at Bhashyam Circle for two hours, gaining firsthand insight into the daily challenges faced by Bengaluru’s traffic police.
Rajajinagar witnessed an unusual but inspiring scene on Tuesday as senior BJP MLA and former minister S. Suresh Kumar stepped onto the road, not as a lawmaker, but as a traffic constable. The initiative, carried out at Bhashyam Circle, was part of Bengaluru Traffic Police’s citizen programme encouraging public participation in traffic management.

Kumar, invited by the police department, donned the traffic reflector jacket and spent two hours (9 am to 11 am) regulating peak-hour congestion. Alongside Inspector S. Mahamadh Ali, Sub-Inspector Nanjayya, and head constables Akram Pasha, Raghavendra, and Lokesh, the MLA monitored signals, guided vehicles, spoke to violators, and observed on-ground challenges firsthand.

The MLA said the experience helped him better understand the tireless work of traffic personnel. He noted that despite repeated awareness drives, violations continue to rise because many citizens ignore basic rules, such as wearing ISI-mark helmets, avoiding overspeeding, and not stopping on zebra crossings.
He cautioned motorists against treating fines casually. “One accident can leave a person with lifelong injuries. Our life is in our own hands. Following traffic rules is not optional,” he told commuters.

Kumar also revealed that he has previously stepped in informally at busy junctions like Chalukya Circle, Modi Junction, and Navarang Circle during rain or heavy congestion, but this was his first formal enrolment under the Bengaluru Traffic Police’s “Traffic Cop for a Day” programme, available through the BTP ASTraM app.
Calling the experience “memorable and meaningful,” he promised to return every Monday for an hour to support traffic police.
BJP leaders Sudarshan, Girish Gowda, Kamadhenu Suresh, Umesh, Sanjay Kumar, Amit Jain, and Mohan Raj were also present during the session.
