Despite survey completion and document verification, excess applications and multiple entries from the same address may delay housing allotment for displaced families
Uncertainty continues to surround the rehabilitation process for families displaced from Kogilu Layout, as the number of applicants seeking houses has exceeded the actual number of residents who lost their homes.
According to official data, 167 residents were displaced after losing their houses in Kogilu Layout. However, authorities received around 250 applications for housing benefits, triggering confusion and complicating the allotment process.
Officials have found that applications were not limited to local residents alone. People from outside the state have also applied for houses, raising serious concerns over eligibility. Adding to the problem, authorities have detected two to three applications submitted from the same residential address, further complicating scrutiny.

The state government had earlier announced that houses would be allotted to the displaced families by January 1. In preparation, a one-day survey was conducted to identify beneficiaries. That survey has now been completed, and a first list of applicants has been prepared.
The Tahsildar has submitted the initial list to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) after completing document verification. According to information accessed by News First from senior sources, all 250 applicants have submitted documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, ration cards and caste certificates.
During cross-verification, officials found that all submitted documents were valid and active, making the next stage of scrutiny more complex. With documentation cleared, the next phase of decision-making now rests with the GBA, officials said.

Meanwhile, ready-to-occupy flats have been prepared in Baiyappanahalli under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. The government plans to allot these flats to the displaced families from Kogilu Layout. However, the unexpectedly high number of applications compared to the number of actual beneficiaries has made the distribution process challenging.
Officials indicate that due to these discrepancies, the house allotment process may face further delays, leaving many displaced families waiting for clarity.
