BJP MP welcomes Cabinet move to fix Hebbal choke point, urges government to avoid corruption and protect Brand Bengaluru

BJP MP from Chikkaballapur, Dr K. Sudhakar, has publicly welcomed the Karnataka government's decision to press ahead with resolving the long-standing bottleneck at Hebbal. Posting his remarks on social media, he said that daily commuters from Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Yelahanka, and even those travelling from parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, understand the severe congestion at the Hebbal Arch and the urgent need for a permanent fix.

He stressed that residents travelling between the city and the airport also face the same daily struggle, calling the Cabinet’s decision an important step forward. “At this stage, instead of political point-scoring, we must support the project and ensure it finally delivers relief,” he said.

However, Dr Sudhakar also issued a strong warning. Bengaluru, he said, will not accept environmental damage, corruption or anything that undermines Brand Bengaluru. If such concerns are ignored, he added, citizens would hold the government fully accountable.

The Karnataka Cabinet recently approved a ₹2,215 crore plan for a new tunnel–elevated corridor between Hebbal Junction and Mehkri Circle, aimed at easing one of the city’s most notorious choke points. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will fund and execute the project.

The corridor is designed to support two-wheelers and autorickshaws that cannot use the longer Hebbal-Silk Board twin tunnel, which is currently under tender. As per the proposal, the project includes a 2.27 km three-lane twin tunnel starting at Hebbal Junction and continuing up to the campus of the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU).

From KVAFSU, an elevated road will extend to Mehkri Circle, addressing heavy movement around RT Nagar, Sanjay Nagar and Ganganagar.
