  • Fare increase may be implemented from February
  • Letters sent to Centre, State and BMRCL officials

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has written to Union and State leaders opposing the proposed Namma Metro ticket fare increase, warning of added burden on commuters if the hike is implemented from February.

The proposed increase in Namma Metro ticket fares has drawn strong opposition from Bengaluru South Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya, who has expressed serious concern over the move by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

With indications that Metro fares could be revised as early as February, MP Tejasvi Surya has urged authorities not to proceed with the hike. In this regard, he has written detailed letters to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and the Managing Director of BMRCL, seeking immediate intervention.

In his communication, the MP has highlighted that BMRCL officials are preparing to increase ticket prices, which would directly impact daily commuters who depend on the Metro for affordable and reliable transport. He has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision-making process behind the proposed fare revision and cautioned against placing additional financial pressure on the public.

Tejasvi Surya has requested the authorities to reconsider the fare hike proposal and ensure that commuter interests remain the top priority. He has also sought clarity on the rationale behind the proposed increase and called for transparency in fare-related decisions.

The letter comes at a time when Metro ridership continues to grow, with thousands of office-goers and students relying on Namma Metro as a primary mode of transport. Any fare revision, he noted, should be carefully evaluated to avoid discouraging public transport usage.

The issue has now gained political attention, with the MP’s intervention likely to trigger further discussions within the government and BMRCL on whether the proposed ticket fare hike should be deferred or reviewed.
