Karnataka is grappling with a staggering infant mortality crisis, as official records reveal that 18,931 newborns have died over the past three years. The data, sourced from the state’s Health Management Information System, highlights a deeply concerning trend in neonatal and maternal healthcare.

According to the records, Bengaluru leads the state with 2,324 newborn deaths, followed by Mysuru (1,561), Raichur (1,450), Koppal (1,265), Ballari (1,231), Kalaburagi (1,062), Belagavi (1,036), and Dharwad (1,023).
Breaking it down year-wise:
• 2022-23: 7,471 infant deaths
• 2023-24: 5,634 infant deaths
• 2024-25: 5,826 infant deaths
