Netflix is set to open its second India office in Hyderabad’s HITECH City, triggering an online debate on why the global streaming giant chose the city over Bengaluru.

Netflix is set to expand its operations in India with a brand-new office in Hyderabad, marking its second base in the country after Mumbai. The global streaming giant has secured a 41,000-square-foot facility in HITECH City, known as one of India’s fastest-growing IT and business districts.

The upcoming office will serve as a key hub for regional content creation and production management, with dedicated teams handling creative development, project coordination, technical operations, and vendor relations. The move highlights Netflix’s growing focus on South Indian storytelling, as audiences across the region continue to drive major viewership numbers on the platform.

News of the Hyderabad expansion quickly caught attention online, and reignited a familiar debate comparing the city to Bengaluru, India’s long-standing tech powerhouse. Many social media users pointed out that while Bengaluru still leads in innovation and startups, Hyderabad’s smoother infrastructure, better connectivity, and business-friendly governance are helping it attract more global firms.

One viral post on X humorously remarked, “If I were running Bangalore, I’d be losing sleep over traffic and potholes by now,” while another took a more balanced view, saying, “It’s healthy that companies are spreading out, Bengaluru has reached its limit, and it’s time for other cities to shine.”
Others chimed in with witty takes on India’s metro identities: “Hyderabad gets the offices, Bengaluru has the brains, Mumbai brings the money, and Delhi holds the power.”

Several users blamed Bengaluru’s congestion and infrastructure delays for making businesses look elsewhere, while others defended the city’s reputation as a hub for creativity and innovation.

With Netflix now joining other major multinational companies in choosing Hyderabad, the city’s growing reputation as a thriving creative and technology center appears to be solidifying further, reinforcing its status as a serious contender in India’s new corporate map.
