Passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mumbai will soon get a faster, alternate train route via central Karnataka as the Railways approves a new superfast service through Belagavi and Hubballi-Dharwad.
Rail passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mumbai can soon expect relief, as the Indian Railways has approved a new superfast train connecting the two cities through Belagavi and Hubballi-Dharwad. This comes as a long-awaited move to ease the load on the decades-old Udyan Express, which currently serves as the only direct superfast train on the route.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had given the green signal for the service. “For over 30 years, Udyan Express has been the sole direct superfast train via the Guntakal–Solapur route. There’s been a persistent demand for an alternative train connecting central Karnataka to Mumbai,” Joshi said.
The new train will traverse Tumakuru, Davanagere, Haveri, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Belagavi, covering nearly 600 km within Karnataka before heading to Mumbai. Railway officials said the timetable, halts, and train type will be announced after the Railway Board’s final approval.

Currently, Udyan Express covers 1,136 km between Bengaluru and Mumbai, taking 21 hours from Mumbai and over 23 hours on the return journey. The upcoming superfast train is expected to reduce travel time and offer better frequency, fulfilling a decades-old passenger demand.
