In a special New Year move, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has approved extended liquor sale hours, allowing bars to operate from early morning till 1 am on December 31.
There is big New Year cheer for liquor lovers as authorities have officially extended liquor sale timings on December 31, offering longer hours for celebrations ahead of the New Year.
In a significant order issued ahead of year-end festivities, Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has approved the extension of liquor sale hours, giving bars permission to remain open for an unusually long duration on December 31. As per the order, licensed bars can sell liquor from 6 am in the morning until 1 am past midnight.

This special relaxation means bars will open even before sunrise on December 31, giving customers access to liquor early in the day itself. The extended timing has been introduced exclusively for New Year celebrations, considering the heavy footfall and festive demand expected across the city.
Under normal circumstances, liquor sale timings are restricted to shorter hours. However, for December 31, the sale window has been significantly widened to ensure regulated and lawful consumption, rather than unmonitored gatherings.
Officials clarified that while timings have been extended, bars and establishments must strictly adhere to licensing rules and law-and-order norms. Police will continue to monitor premises to prevent overcrowding, violations and any untoward incidents during celebrations.
The decision has been welcomed by bar owners and patrons alike, as New Year celebrations are set to peak across hotels, pubs and entertainment zones.
