Food Minister KH Muniyappa assures that no BPL cards will be cancelled but will be reclassified as APL, promising quick resolution of any issues within 24 hours.

Karnataka Food Minister KH Muniyappa has put an end to growing concerns about the cancellation of Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards. Addressing the issue in Bengaluru, Muniyappa stated that no BPL cards will be cancelled, even if they are found to be ineligible. Instead, such cards will be converted into Above Poverty Line (APL) cards in line with government norms.

“All BPL cards will undergo a thorough revision. Those found ineligible will not lose access to ration completely but will be moved to the APL category,” Muniyappa said. He assured citizens that any errors or disruptions during the transition process would be fixed within 24 hours to ensure uninterrupted food grain distribution.

The list of ineligible BPL cardholders has already been published at fair price shops across the state. Authorities have been verbally instructed to temporarily withhold distribution to those listed for up to three days until verification is completed.
