  • Illegal banners dominate Bengaluru streets
  • GBA to file court cases, not just impose fines
  • Action ordered by DCM D.K. Shivakumar

Cracking down on the growing menace of unauthorised flexes and banners, the Greater Bengaluru Authority has announced strict legal action, moving beyond fines to criminal cases, following clear directions from Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Illegal flex boards and banners have once again taken over Bengaluru’s streets, prompting the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to announce tough action against violators. In a strong warning, the GBA has made it clear that putting up banners without permission will no longer be treated lightly.

Speaking on the issue, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao said that the city has seen a sharp rise in unauthorised banners and flexes across major roads, junctions, and public spaces. He stated that this unchecked practice not only spoils the city’s appearance but also poses safety risks to commuters.

Until now, officials were largely limiting their action to issuing notices or imposing fines on those responsible. However, that approach is set to change. The Chief Commissioner confirmed that cases will now be registered in courts against individuals and organisations that install banners without approval.

This stricter enforcement follows direct instructions from Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who has asked officials to act firmly and without any leniency. The DCM has clearly instructed that legal proceedings must be initiated against violators, instead of allowing them to escape with minor penalties.

With court cases now on the table, authorities hope this move will deter repeat violations and help restore order in public spaces across Bengaluru.
