In a major boost to commuter safety, Bengaluru City Police have partnered with Uber and Ola to embed the city’s 112 emergency response system directly into cab booking apps, enabling faster police assistance through real-time data sharing.

In a significant step towards enhancing public safety and secure urban travel, the Bengaluru City Police (BCP) has joined hands with cab aggregators Uber and Ola to integrate emergency response technology into their mobile applications. The new feature allows riders and drivers to directly contact the city’s 112 emergency services during distress situations with a single tap.

Under this system, emergency calling is now built into the Uber and Ola apps. When activated, it automatically shares critical details such as the user’s live location, trip information, and contact data with the Bengaluru police’s 112 emergency command centre. This removes delays caused by manual phone calls or location sharing.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the initiative ensures seamless and instant transmission of vital information to police teams. He noted that quicker access to accurate data can significantly reduce response time and help first responders act swiftly during emergencies.

Explaining how the feature works, a senior police officer said users must tap the blue shield icon visible on the cab booking app. This opens the safety tools section, where users can select the “Namma 112” option. A “swipe to call” feature then appears, instantly connecting the user to the Namma 112 emergency response centre along with their live location and contact details.

Once the alert is received, the nearest police patrol vehicle is immediately dispatched to the location. Officials said this technology integration ensures accurate coordination and faster deployment, especially in time-sensitive situations.

The police stated that the collaboration reflects a growing focus on using technology partnerships to strengthen commuter safety, particularly for women, late-night travellers, and daily office commuters.
