  • Mega traffic plan launched for ORR from Silk Board to KR Puram
  • Flyovers, footpaths, Metro coordination prioritised
  • Double-decker road and service road works to finish soon

From Silk Board to KR Puram, a series of infrastructure upgrades, pedestrian-focused measures, and coordination with Metro agencies aim to ease congestion and improve daily commute on Bengaluru’s busiest corridor.

In a major move to tackle chronic traffic congestion on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has rolled out a detailed and multi-pronged action plan. The initiative is part of a larger strategy to help Bengaluru move away from its reputation as India’s second most traffic-congested city.

GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao personally inspected the ORR stretch from Silk Board Junction to KR Puram and issued a series of clear instructions to officials for immediate and long-term interventions.

One of the key proposals focuses on the Iblur Junction, where traffic snarls are a daily issue. Officials have been directed to prepare a comprehensive report for constructing an approximately 800-metre-long flyover. The report will include estimated cost, construction timeline, and design options.

At Silk Board Junction, the Chief Commissioner stressed the need for integrated development in coordination with the South Zone civic body and the Metro Rail department. Special attention has been given to Metro station surroundings, with instructions to level uneven roads caused by pile-cap works and fix road shrinkage issues without delay.

Pedestrian safety and walkability form a major part of the plan. Authorities have been asked to prioritise footpath development across the ORR stretch. A specific directive was issued to complete nearly 2 km of pedestrian pathways near Iblur Metro Station. Officials have also been told to submit a list of locations where skywalks are required. Near Kadubisanahalli, widening of the rajakaluve has been planned along with the construction of a pedestrian walkway.

Additional measures include completing the double-decker road project by the end of February, asphalt resurfacing of the HSR Junction service road, cleaning and upkeep of footpaths near Karthik Nagar Metro Station, and introducing a paid parking system near Salem Bridge.

The GBA believes these coordinated steps will significantly ease congestion on the ORR and improve mobility for commuters, pedestrians, and public transport users alike.
