Giving a major push to digital education, the state government has granted administrative approval to set up smart classrooms in thousands of government schools under the Samagra Shikshana Karnataka scheme.
In a significant move to strengthen public education, the Karnataka state government has approved the establishment of smart classrooms in 3,862 government schools across the state. The decision reflects the government’s renewed focus on improving learning outcomes through technology-driven education.
Administrative approval has been granted for the project, which will be implemented under the centrally sponsored Samagra Shikshana Karnataka programme. The initiative will cover government primary schools, high schools, and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs).

According to official details, the approved schools include those selected across multiple academic years. Under Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, 1,631 higher primary schools were identified during the 2022-23 academic year. This was followed by approval for 95 schools in 2024-25, and 1,326 schools in 2025-26. In addition, 2,810 high schools have been included in the project, taking the total count to 3,862 schools statewide.
Each classroom will be developed as a smart classroom at a unit cost of ₹2.4 lakh per class. Based on this cost structure, the total estimated expenditure for the project stands at ₹91.54 crore.
Officials confirmed that the Director of the Samagra Shikshana Department had submitted a detailed proposal to the state government seeking approval for the large-scale rollout of smart classrooms. The proposal has now received formal clearance, paving the way for implementation.

With this approval, thousands of students studying in government-run schools will gain access to digital learning tools, modern teaching aids, and technology-enabled classrooms.
