  • GBA opens pay-and-park tender from today
  • Paid roadside parking to expand beyond MG Road
  • Hourly charges fixed for two-wheelers and cars

From Commercial Road to Miller’s Road, paid roadside parking is set to expand across Bengaluru as GBA opens tenders and prepares to roll out new parking regulations.

Roadside parking in Bengaluru is set to change completely, with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) moving towards a full-scale implementation of the pay-and-park system across the city. The tender process for the new parking framework has been opened from today, officials confirmed.

According to GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao, the authority is preparing to introduce structured street parking rules, under which motorists will have to pay to park vehicles along designated roadside spaces. The tender opening marks a key step towards rolling out the system citywide.

A pilot version of the pay-and-park model has already been launched on MG Road on an experimental basis. Based on the outcome of the tender process and its implementation, the system will be expanded to other parts of the city.

Officials said that tenders have already been invited and completed in the Bengaluru Central zone. As part of this process, parking locations have been identified on busy stretches such as Commercial Street, Dickenson Road, Miller’s Road, St John’s area and several other high-footfall locations.

Under the proposed structure, two-wheelers will be charged ₹15 per hour, while four-wheelers will have to pay ₹30 per hour. Authorities have also planned a monthly pass system to make paid parking more convenient for regular users.

GBA officials stated that the objective of the pay-and-park policy is to regulate unorganised roadside parking, which has long contributed to congestion on city roads. Currently, vehicles are often parked wherever space is available, creating traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns.

With the tender process now underway, the GBA is expected to finalise operators soon and bring the new street parking rules into force across Bengaluru in phases. Once implemented, roadside parking without payment in designated zones will no longer be allowed.
