A private photo shared with a boyfriend was misused for blackmail, forcing a college student to pay money before she approached the Central CEN police after fresh demands.
A case of digital blackmail involving private photographs has come to light after a 19-year-old student from a reputed private college filed a complaint with the Central CEN police station.
According to the complaint, the student had earlier shared private photographs with her boyfriend. However, a few days later, she received the same photos on her phone from an unknown number. The unexpected message left her shocked and fearful, as the sender threatened to circulate the images unless money was paid.
Disturbed by the situation, the student initially shared the matter with a close friend. Acting out of fear, the friend transferred ₹1 lakh to the blackmailer, hoping the threats would stop. However, despite the payment, the harassment continued.

The blackmailer allegedly sent the private photos again from an unidentified number and demanded more money. With the pressure increasing and no end to the threats, the student decided to approach the police and formally register a complaint.
In her statement, the student raised concerns about how the private photos, meant only for her boyfriend, had reached an unknown person. She also expressed doubt about whether the images were shared further without her knowledge.
During the initial investigation, suspicion briefly fell on the boyfriend, as the photos were originally shared with him. However, police have stated that preliminary findings indicate that the boyfriend does not appear to be directly involved in the blackmail.
