To ease parking stress and improve traffic flow, the GBA has moved to develop modern multi-level parking facilities at select metro stations, with officials asked to identify suitable locations at the earliest.
Bengaluru Metro commuters may soon get major relief from daily parking hassles, as plans are underway to construct multi-level parking complexes at metro stations across the city. The move aims to address long-standing parking shortages around metro stations while also helping regulate traffic and ensure safer vehicle storage for the public.
Currently, parking at many metro stations is handled by private operators, with contractors using vacant land as makeshift parking areas. While this system provides limited relief, concerns have been raised over space management, safety and lack of uniform facilities. To resolve this, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided to step in and develop high-tech, well-equipped parking structures directly under its supervision.
The proposed multi-level parking buildings are expected to significantly increase parking capacity at metro stations, reduce roadside congestion and offer secure parking options for commuters’ vehicles. Officials believe the initiative will also support smoother traffic movement around busy metro corridors.

In a key development, GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to prepare a detailed list of metro stations where multi-level parking facilities can be constructed. The instruction was issued during a coordination meeting held on Tuesday, where the proposal was discussed in detail.
The meeting saw participation from commissioners of five city municipal corporations, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, and BMRCL officials, highlighting the multi-agency coordination involved in the project.

For several years, there has been a persistent demand for structured multi-level parking at metro stations. Despite repeated discussions, no project has taken off so far. With the latest directive to quickly identify suitable stations, officials indicate that work could finally move forward, raising hopes of early implementation.
If executed as planned, the initiative could soon bring much-needed relief for metro users, making daily commuting more convenient and organised.
