After losing his 34-year-old daughter, retired BPCL officer K Sivakumar shared a painful account of how he was asked for bribes at every stage, from filing an FIR to conducting the funeral. His viral post has reignited debate over corruption in Bengaluru.
In a heartbreaking revelation that has shocked Bengaluru, retired Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) Chief Finance Officer K. Sivakumar has alleged that corruption has become deeply rooted across every department of the city’s system.

After losing his 34-year-old daughter Akshaya Sivakumar, an IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad graduate, on September 18, Sivakumar took to LinkedIn to describe the ordeal his family faced. In his viral post, he said that almost every step following his daughter’s death involved a demand for bribes.
Sivakumar alleged that:
• Bellandur Police demanded a bribe to file the FIR.
• An ambulance driver asked for ₹5,000 to transport his daughter’s body.
• Hospital staff allegedly sought money to release the post-mortem report.
• Crematorium workers demanded payment to conduct the funeral.
• Even officials reportedly asked for a bribe to issue the death certificate.

In his emotional post, Sivakumar wrote, “I had money, so I paid. But what will the poor do? There was no sympathy for a father who lost his daughter. Every office demanded money, from police to officials.”
He also accused a Bellandur police inspector of behaving arrogantly during the process. His account has since sparked widespread outrage and debate about the normalisation of corruption in Bengaluru’s civic and administrative systems.
