A routine inspection by GBA health officials in Bengaluru South exposed the use of foul-smelling, spoiled chicken at a popular biryani outlet in Tilak Nagar, leading to immediate action and a hefty penalty.
In a disturbing development, health officials from the GBA carried out an inspection in the Bengaluru South zone and uncovered the use of spoiled and foul-smelling chicken at a popular biryani outlet, raising serious concerns over food safety and public health.
The inspection was conducted in the Jayanagar area, where officials visited the well-known Star Ambur Biryani Hotel located in Tilak Nagar. During the surprise check, authorities found large quantities of rotten chicken stored inside the freezer. The meat reportedly emitted a strong foul smell, clearly indicating that it was unfit for consumption.
Further investigation revealed that the same spoiled chicken was being used to prepare biryani and kebabs, dishes for which the restaurant is widely popular. The shocking discovery left health officials stunned, prompting immediate enforcement action.

Following the inspection, the GBA health department imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on the hotel for serious violations of food safety standards. Officials confirmed that the action was taken around 1 PM on Tuesday, soon after the inspection concluded.
Authorities stated that the hotel had violated basic hygiene and food safety norms by storing decayed meat and using it for cooking. Such practices pose severe health risks, including food poisoning and serious infections.
