Bengaluru West City Corporation begins feasibility study after congestion worsens; proposal placed before Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, with funding expected from the GBA budget if approved.

In an effort to address severe traffic congestion at Goraguntepalya junction, officials from the Bengaluru West City Corporation have proposed the construction of a short tunnel road at the busy intersection. The proposal is currently in its early stages, and a detailed feasibility study is being conducted to assess its financial and practical viability.

According to official sources, the idea was presented during a recent review meeting with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. The meeting focused on finding long-term solutions to ease traffic movement at one of Bengaluru’s most congested road junctions.

Senior officials said that the growing volume of vehicles passing through Goraguntepalya has made it essential to explore alternative infrastructure solutions. “Traffic congestion here is increasing every day. We need sustainable measures to improve traffic flow. The tunnel road option is being studied carefully to see if it is feasible both technically and financially,” a senior official stated.

Goraguntepalya junction is a critical traffic node connecting major roads in north-west Bengaluru. Due to persistent congestion, the traffic police have also flagged the junction as a high-priority area requiring immediate intervention. Officials believe that a tunnel could help divert through-traffic and reduce surface-level congestion significantly.

If the feasibility study yields positive results, authorities are hopeful that funds for the project will be allocated in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) budget, enabling the proposal to move forward to the next stage.
