A major cleanliness drive restores safety on Bengaluru’s busiest flyover, with officials and citizen groups warning against waste dumping on elevated roads.
The heavily used Silk Board Flyover in Bengaluru has undergone a complete deep-cleaning operation, bringing much-needed relief to daily commuters. The flyover, which had deteriorated due to continuous dumping of garbage, had become unsafe and visually unpleasant, raising concerns over traffic safety and public hygiene.
The cleaning drive was carried out by the Bengaluru South civic authorities, who removed accumulated waste that had turned several sections of the flyover into dumping spots. The presence of garbage had narrowed usable road space and increased the risk of accidents, especially during peak traffic hours and low-visibility conditions.
Officials ensured that the flyover was thoroughly cleaned, restoring smooth road conditions and improving overall safety for motorists. The effort highlights the direct link between clean roads and safe roads, especially on flyovers that are meant strictly for movement and not waste disposal.

Alongside the cleaning, citizen groups appealed to the public to act responsibly. A strong message was issued requesting people not to dump waste on flyovers and to follow proper waste management practices. To reinforce this appeal, a before-and-after video of the Silk Board Flyover was shared, clearly showing the transformation after the deep clean and the dangers posed earlier due to garbage piles.
The reminder was firm and clear: dumping waste on flyovers can lead to serious accidents and endanger lives. Flyovers are designed for fast-moving traffic and even small obstructions can have major consequences.
Authorities and civic groups have now called upon citizens to cooperate by maintaining cleanliness and reporting illegal dumping. Sustaining the current condition of the Silk Board Flyover depends largely on public participation and responsible behavior.
