BMRCL announces the opening of a new skywalk connecting ITPL with Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station, offering safer and faster access for thousands of daily commuters in Whitefield.

Bengaluru’s IT hub Whitefield, which witnesses heavy daily movement of professionals, is set to get a major commuting boost with the opening of a new skywalk connecting the International Tech Park Bengaluru (ITPL) to the Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station on the Purple Line.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that the skywalk construction has been completed and will be officially inaugurated on January 16. The project aims to improve last-mile connectivity for thousands of commuters, especially employees travelling from areas such as Kolar and Chikkaballapur who heavily depend on the Metro for daily travel.

The skywalk project was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed on January 17, 2023, between BMRCL and Information Technology Park Limited (ITPL). Following this agreement, the modern pedestrian overbridge has now been readied for public use.

Once opened, the skywalk is expected to benefit more than 50,000 people every day. It will allow commuters to directly enter the ITPL campus from the concourse level of the Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station, eliminating the need to cross busy roads or wait at traffic signals.

The inauguration ceremony will take place on Friday, January 16, and is expected to be attended by BMRCL Managing Director Ravishankar J. and CapitaLand India Trust CEO Gowri Shankar Nagabhushanam.

Built by ITPL as per designs approved by BMRCL, the skywalk will enable nearly 55,000 professionals to travel safely and efficiently to their workplaces.

The new facility is also expected to significantly reduce time loss caused by traffic congestion and signal halts, making daily office commutes smoother and safer in the Whitefield area.
