  • Mini water tanks to be installed
  • BWSSB tankers to get priority
  • Daily field inspections mandated

Mini water tanks, tanker prioritisation, and strict field monitoring form the core of BWSSB’s summer preparedness strategy to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply across the city.

With summer approaching and water demand expected to rise sharply, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has strengthened its preparedness to manage potential shortages across the city. A detailed action plan has been rolled out to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water, especially in high-risk areas.

A high-level review meeting was conducted to assess the city’s readiness, following which high-density localities and vulnerable pockets likely to face water stress were identified. Based on this assessment, BWSSB has decided to install mini water tanks at strategic locations to guarantee free access to drinking water for residents.

To ensure efficient operations, strict instructions have been issued regarding the filling and management of these tanks. Priority will be given to BWSSB’s own water tankers and the ‘Sanchari Cauvery’ mobile tanker services, while private tankers will be hired only if absolutely necessary.

In a move aimed at strengthening on-ground monitoring, all senior engineers, assistant executive engineers, and water inspectors have been directed to stay in the field rather than operate from offices. Daily inspections of their respective jurisdictions have been mandated to closely track water distribution and quickly respond to emerging issues.

Officials have been instructed to verify ground conditions, ensure timely tanker movement, and prevent any lapses in supply, particularly in identified shortage-prone areas. This hands-on approach is intended to improve response time and reduce inconvenience to residents.

The phased preparedness plan is expected to help Bengaluru navigate the summer months with minimal disruption, ensuring consistent water availability while also managing operational challenges related to high demand.
