A honey trap gang operating through Telegram has been busted in Bengaluru’s RR Nagar. A software engineer was targeted twice, assaulted, and threatened for money. Five accused, including two women makeup artists, have been arrested.

Five-member gang, including two women makeup artists, arrested for targeting a software engineer through Telegram dating calls and extorting money in RR Nagar

A dangerous honey trap racket operating through the Telegram app has been exposed in Bengaluru, with RR Nagar police arresting a five-member gang accused of extortion, assault, and robbery.

The case involves a software engineer who was targeted after receiving calls from women through Telegram. According to the case details, the gang used dating-style conversations to lure victims and later trap them for money.

In the first instance, a young woman allegedly fixed a meeting for ₹20,000 and invited the software engineer to her house. Once he arrived, he was threatened and pressured to pay money.

Despite the earlier incident, the same victim was contacted again on the 20th of this month in a similar manner. This time, the woman asked him to come to RR Nagar. When the software engineer reached the location, three men joined the woman, assaulted him, and demanded money. The gang is accused of carrying out the honey trap operation twice on the same victim.

Following the complaint, RR Nagar police launched an investigation and arrested all five accused. Those arrested include two women identified as Anjali (28) and Harshini alias Sweety (26), both working as makeup artists. The other accused are Jagadish (35), Manjunath (30), and Lokesh (32), who allegedly assisted in the assault and extortion.

The gang has been booked for assault and robbery, and a case has been registered at the RR Nagar police station. Police have cautioned the public to be alert while interacting with unknown contacts on social media and messaging platforms like Telegram, especially for dating-related conversations.
