Strict enforcement of jail rules after Darshan’s re-entry triggers unrest; co-accused seek transfer citing physical and mental abuse.

Serious unrest has been reported from Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where actor Darshan continues to be lodged in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan is currently sharing a single cell with five co-accused, Anukumar, Jagga, Nagraj, Pradosh and Lakshman, who were arrested in the same case.

Prison officials say this is the second time the actor has landed in Parappana Agrahara, and given his past record of violating jail protocols, authorities have enforced stricter measures this time. Jail ADGP Dayanand has directed tight rule implementation, while IPS officer Anshukumar, the newly appointed Superintendent, is executing these instructions without exception.

The special treatment Darshan reportedly enjoyed during his previous imprisonment has now been completely removed. Like all other inmates, he must stand in line for meals, carry his own plate and clean his own toilet. Officials say these strict rules have visibly affected his mental stability.

According to sources inside the prison, this frustration has spilled over into aggressive behaviour toward fellow inmates. Darshan is accused of verbally abusing and physically intimidating them. On one occasion, he allegedly kicked sleeping inmates to wake them up and used foul language when they did not respond immediately.

The situation escalated two days ago when a heated fight broke out between Darshan and co-accused Jagadish inside the cell. Jail officers intervened quickly to separate them.

Unable to bear the alleged harassment, inmates Anukumar and Jagadish petitioned the court requesting transfer to another jail. Anukumar is said to have told authorities that he “would rather die than remain in the same cell,” adding that the lack of bail and the constant tension had pushed him to the edge.

In view of the ongoing disturbances, prison authorities have become extremely alert. CCTV cameras have now been installed near Darshan’s cell to continuously monitor movements and prevent any further violence.

Sources say the co-accused remain in fear, describing Darshan’s behaviour as “unbearable” and “disturbing,” while jail staff continue to keep strict watch to avoid any escalation.

The situation inside the high-security prison remains tense, with safety concerns prompting heightened surveillance and ongoing monitoring of all inmates in the case.
