Police seize mobile phone and pistol as investigators probe the final moments of Confident Group Chairman Dr CJ Roy amid questions over IT interrogation and mental pressure.
The death of Confident Group Chairman Dr CJ Roy has taken a dramatic turn, with investigators now focusing on his last interactions and digital trail to uncover what led to the shocking incident. While preliminary findings have confirmed the case as a suicide, the reason behind the extreme step remains unclear, deepening the mystery around his final moments.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Bengaluru police have seized Dr Roy’s mobile phone, suspecting it may hold crucial clues. Officers are examining call records, messages, WhatsApp chats, and other digital data to determine who he spoke to before his death and whether he sent any distress signals or messages hinting at his decision.
Was the answer hidden in his phone?
Investigators are carefully analysing whether Dr Roy contacted anyone close to him or shared his state of mind in his final hours. Every incoming and outgoing call, message, and chat is being scrutinised to establish a clear timeline and emotional context leading up to the incident.

Allegations of mental pressure by IT officials
Another key angle under probe is the role of the Income Tax (IT) officials who were questioning Dr Roy on the day of the incident. Sources say IT raids were not new for the businessman, but questions are being raised about whether the nature of the questioning on that day caused extreme mental stress.
Earlier, several important documents on the third floor of the Confident Group head office had been seized by IT officials, with strict instructions issued to Dr Roy not to access them. Police are now examining whether alleged access to these sealed files became a trigger, pushing him into fear or panic.
What happened during the interrogation?
According to sources, IT officials questioned Dr Roy for nearly one and a half hours. Throughout the interrogation, he reportedly remained silent, offering no answers even when documents were placed before him. Later, he reportedly asked permission to go to the washroom, from where he allegedly returned with a firearm and shot himself in the chest, leading to his death.
Questions haunting investigators
Police say several unanswered questions remain:
• Did IT officials fail to notice that Dr Roy was carrying a pistol during the interrogation?
• Was he under such intense pressure that he took the extreme step in front of officials?
• What fear could have driven a wealthy and successful businessman to such a decision?
At present, both the mobile phone and the pistol have been seized, and samples have been sent for forensic (FSL) examination. Investigators believe the truth behind this mysterious death will emerge only after the forensic reports and digital analysis are completed.
