Protest under Ananth Subbarao’s leadership to be held at Freedom Park on January 29, demanding clearance of 38 months of salary arrears and revised pay for four transport corporations.

Transport workers have once again intensified their protest against the state government, announcing a major agitation under the banner of “Bengaluru Chalo.” The demonstration is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Freedom Park in Bengaluru.

The protest is being led by transport workers’ leader Ananth Subbarao and is supported by the Joint Action Committee representing employees of all four state-run transport corporations. The agitation is planned to be held from 10 am to 4 pm and is expected to witness participation from a large number of transport employees.

The core demand of the protest revolves around long-pending salary-related issues. Transport workers are seeking the release of wage revision arrears for a period of 38 months, covering January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2023. In addition to this, they are also demanding the implementation and payment of revised salaries from January 1, 2024, for a further period of four years.

According to the Joint Action Committee, repeated appeals and discussions have failed to resolve these issues, forcing workers to return to the streets. In this regard, the committee has formally written to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, informing him about the protest and reiterating their demands.

The transport employees argue that delayed salary revisions and unpaid arrears have severely impacted their financial stability. They insist that timely payment of dues is essential to safeguard the livelihoods of thousands of workers serving in the public transport system.
