Ballari Road to get 2.2 km tunnel and 1.2 km flyover linking Hebbal to Mehkri Circle, easing congestion and improving connectivity for Bengaluru commuters

Ballari Road, one of north Bengaluru’s busiest stretches, is set for a major infrastructure overhaul with the launch of two integrated projects — a short tunnel and an elevated corridor — aimed at easing congestion between Hebbal and Mehkri Circle.

Two-Part Development
The plan includes a 2.2‑kilometre tunnel running from Hebbal to the veterinary college. Designed with three lanes on each side, the tunnel will divert through‑traffic away from surface junctions, reducing bottlenecks. Complementing this will be a 1.2‑kilometre elevated corridor stretching from the UAS staff quarters to Mehkri Circle. Built as a two‑lane, bi‑directional flyover, it will allow vehicles to bypass ground‑level traffic snarls.

Unified Traffic System
Officials have confirmed that both projects are being designed as a single, seamless traffic system. Vehicles exiting the tunnel will directly connect to the elevated corridor, enabling uninterrupted movement toward Mehkri Circle without merging back onto surface roads. The system is expected to particularly benefit motorists travelling from Kempegowda International Airport toward central Bengaluru, offering a faster and less congested route.

Improved Connectivity
The elevated corridor will feature rotary ramps at Mehkri Circle, providing smoother access to Jayamahal Road and CV Raman Road. This design aims to distribute traffic more evenly across key arterial routes, reducing pressure on Ballari Road and surrounding junctions.

Relief for Commuters
The twin projects are expected to bring significant relief to thousands of daily commuters who struggle with heavy congestion along the corridor. By integrating tunnel and flyover infrastructure, the initiative promises to reshape traffic flow in north Bengaluru and enhance connectivity between the city’s northern gateway and its central districts.
