State government approves two 125-bed advanced hospitals in Yelahanka and Sanjaynagar by 2028, while demand grows for a larger teaching hospital in Ramanagara to strengthen regional healthcare.
The Karnataka government has decided to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in North Bengaluru by setting up two state-of-the-art superspecialty hospitals, each with a capacity of 125 beds, in Yelahanka and Sanjaynagar. The projects will be completed by 2028 at a total cost of ₹150 crore, officials said.
In the 2025-26 state budget, the government had announced a single 200-bed multispecialty hospital for North Bengaluru taluk. However, after detailed discussions, the plan was revised. Instead of one large facility, the government opted for two advanced hospitals to improve accessibility and reduce travel time for patients.
The first hospital will come up on five acres of government land at Bellahalli in Yelahanka, while the second will be built on four acres at the GKVK campus in Sanjaynagar. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said the decision was taken keeping Bengaluru’s traffic and mobility challenges in mind. He noted that having two hospitals in different locations would better serve the growing population in these areas.

Meanwhile, healthcare needs beyond Bengaluru have also drawn attention. Bangalore Rural MP Dr CN Manjunath has written to Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil and RGUHS Vice-Chancellor BC Bhagwan, seeking approval for a 650-bed hospital within the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Medical College campus in Ramanagara, part of Bengaluru South district.
The MP pointed out that such a facility would meet Medical Council of India/National Medical Commission norms for clinical training and significantly strengthen secondary and tertiary healthcare services for Ramanagara and surrounding rural regions. Currently, the Ramanagara district hospital has only 250 beds and is located nearly 3 km away from the medical college, creating challenges in academic coordination, emergency care, and optimal use of infrastructure and staff.
