BMRCL plans stricter action as loud mobile use, reels, eating and tobacco cases surge inside Bengaluru Metro trains
Namma Metro has become a lifeline for Bengaluru, helping thousands beat traffic and reach offices, schools and colleges on time. However, growing indiscipline inside Metro trains has prompted the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to plan stricter rules and penalties for passengers.
Officials say complaints about mobile phone nuisance have increased sharply in recent months. Passengers watching reels at high volume, speaking loudly on calls and using Bluetooth devices at disturbing sound levels have become a daily problem, affecting others during travel.
Despite repeated warnings over the past year, Metro security staff say violations have continued unchecked. With enforcement teams struggling to control the situation through advisories alone, BMRCL is now preparing tougher regulations and fines to curb the problem.

According to official data collected between December 5 and December 25, a total of 6,520 cases were registered against passengers for loud mobile use, watching reels, shouting on calls and speaking loudly using Bluetooth headsets inside Metro trains.
Mobile-related violations are not the only concern. Officials noted a rise in passengers secretly eating food inside trains to save time, despite a clear ban. During the same period, 268 cases were booked for eating or consuming snacks inside Metro coaches.
In addition, 641 cases of tobacco consumption were recorded, highlighting continued disregard for safety and cleanliness norms within the Metro system.

Security personnel admit that continuous warnings have had limited impact, leading to fatigue among staff. As a result, BMRCL has indicated that rules will soon be enforced more strictly, with financial penalties likely for repeat offenders.
Metro authorities have urged passengers to stay alert, respect fellow commuters and follow rules related to mobile phone use, food consumption and tobacco. The aim, officials say, is to ensure a peaceful, comfortable and safe travel experience for all Bengaluru Metro users.
