What was first believed to be a drunken driving accident in Anekal’s Kammasandra is now being probed as murder, following serious allegations by the victim’s mother and fresh findings by Hebbagodi police.

A tragic car accident reported from Kammasandra village in Anekal taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru’s Silicon City, has taken a shocking turn. What was initially believed to be a drunk driving mishap is now being investigated as a case of murder, based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

The deceased, Prashanth (28), lost his life following the incident. Acting on the complaint submitted by his mother Anu, the Hebbagodi police have now registered a murder case under relevant sections of the IPC.

According to the police investigation, Prashanth had participated in a local cricket tournament in Kammasandra, where his team suffered a defeat. Disturbed by the loss, he reportedly returned home and spoke about it with his mother. Later in the evening, around 7.30 pm, Prashanth received a phone call and headed back to the cricket ground.

At the ground, Prashanth met his friend Roshan Hegde (27). During a drinking session, a heated argument broke out between the two. The exact reason for the fight is still under investigation, but police are examining whether cricket betting or anger over the match loss triggered the clash.

As the argument escalated, Roshan allegedly attempted to leave the spot in his car. Prashanth tried to stop the vehicle and reportedly held on to the left-side window, hanging outside the moving car. Despite this, Roshan is accused of driving at high speed and intentionally crashing the vehicle into a roadside tree, without stopping.

The impact caused Prashanth, who was hanging outside the car, to suffer severe injuries. He was rushed to hospital but died on the way. Roshan Hegde also sustained serious injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Initially, the incident was treated as a case of rash and negligent driving under intoxication. However, in her complaint, Prashanth’s mother alleged that her son was intentionally killed by ramming the car into a tree. Based on this, Hebbagodi police altered the case to murder.

Police officials said Roshan will be arrested once he recovers and further questioning will follow. The body of Prashanth has been sent to St John’s Hospital for post-mortem examination.
