Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy says Bengaluru’s garbage crisis cannot be solved by the government alone and urges citizens to take responsibility for managing waste at the household level.
Bengaluru’s long-standing garbage crisis has once again come into focus, with Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy stating that eliminating waste from the city is “impossible without people’s cooperation.” Speaking after inaugurating a Semi-Automatic Dry Waste Collection Center and a Garbage Kiosk at Adugodi under the BTM Layout Assembly Constituency, Reddy stressed the need for citizens’ involvement in building a clean Bengaluru.

He appealed to residents not to litter and to take active participation in household-level waste processing. The minister highlighted that the second phase of the transfer station in BTM Layout is now operational, while garbage leachate and leaf processing units in Koramangala are functioning successfully. Several Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) have already begun processing waste and distributing compost to farmers.
Reddy suggested that if every household followed similar practices, Bengaluru’s garbage problem could be permanently solved. He further instructed the Commissioner to take strict action and impose fines on contractors failing to fulfill waste collection duties.
