A group of friends celebrating the Yellow Line’s commercial launch faced a fine from BMRCL after failing to exit at Bommasandra before returning on the same train.
Bengaluru’s newly launched Yellow Line metro witnessed an overwhelming response on its first day of commercial operations, recording over 50,000 passengers. The 19.15 km line, running between Ragigudda and Bommasandra, saw heavy crowds, with trains operating every 25 minutes.

Amid the celebratory atmosphere, a group of friends from Ragigudda decided to take a joy ride to Bommasandra. Upon arrival, instead of exiting as required, they boarded the same train back to Ragigudda without tapping out. This sparked a standoff with metro staff, as BMRCL rules mandate passengers to exit at the destination before starting a return journey.
Officials explained that metro entry tickets are valid for a fixed time and distance, and bypassing the exit disrupts the system. After nearly an hour of discussions, senior officials intervened, and the group paid the fine before leaving the station.
BMRCL expects the crowding to ease as additional trains are introduced next month, and the Yellow Line’s frequency improves to match other operational corridors by year-end.
