  • Ferrari is paying Rs 8L in rent for a 10,000 sqft showroom in Bengaluru
  • Netizens ask where to drive a Ferrari in a city with potholed roads
  • Showroom has reignited a debate about the city’s crumbling roads

When news broke that Ferrari was paying Rs 8 Lakh in rent for a 10,000 square foot showroom in Bengaluru, one might have expected the IT hub to celebrate. Instead, the internet had a different reaction, questioning where one could possibly drive a Ferrari in city infamous for its potholes.

The showroom, located near the ITC factory in Meenakunte Hosur village, close to Kempegowda International Airport opened in late March. While it has already drawn curious crowds, it has also reignited a debate about the city’s crumbling roads.

Social media users posted sarcastic remarks. One user, @DoctorC28, quipped, “Where will we even drive this car in Blore? The Potholes are so deep, how will the car come out of it ?” Another user by name, Sujay, jokingly suggested that luxury car manufacturers should take it upon themselves to build better roads.

Another user, StayTrue, added a witty take saying “Hope they sell roads too, as an accessory.”

Beyond the road infrastructure debate, the showroom’s signage also came under scrutiny. BBMP had mandated in December 2023 that commercial establishments display at least 60% of their nameboards in Kannada. Some users questioned whether Ferrari was compliant. However, Aniruddha Vasudeva pointed out that the proportions seemed correct, just that ‘Ferrari’ in Kannada takes up more space due to its syllables.

Despite the online banter, many car enthusiasts were thrilled. Some called it “a whole vibe,” while @CricwithNick celebrated Ferrari’s arrival in the city, calling it “pure class rolling in.”
This isn’t the first time Bengaluru has made headlines for its Ferraris. In 2021, a speeding Ferrari crashed into a median in Yelahanka, reportedly due to wet roads.

The new showroom, which also deals in pre-owned Ferraris, adds to the brand’s presence in India, with Mumbai and New Delhi already hosting showrooms. Bengaluru itself is home to an estimated 20 to 30 Ferraris.
