Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds on June 1st and 2nd have inflicted significant damage across Bengaluru, severely impacting the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM).
The heavy downpour and gusty winds caused extensive harm to infrastructure, resulting in widespread power outages and extensive repair work.
According to BESCOM, the storms have led to the damage of 458 electric poles and 86 transformers, further affecting 14 DP (Distribution Point) structures. The utility company has reported a substantial financial loss, estimating the total damage at Rs 12.8 crore. This figure encompasses damages incurred from the late May and early June storms.

BESCOM officials have been working around the clock to assess the extent of the damage and expedite restoration efforts. The company has urged residents to be patient as repair crews work to restore power and repair the damaged infrastructure. Emergency services and support teams have also been mobilized to address the immediate needs of affected residents and ensure public safety.
The recent storms serve as a reminder of the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to extreme weather events, highlighting the need for increased investment in resilient systems.
As Bengaluru braces for more potential storms this monsoon season, city authorities and utility companies are on high alert, preparing for swift response and mitigation measures to minimize future disruptions.
