    Greater Bengaluru Authority to encompass area of 1400 sq.km

    BBMP may stand to get classified into 5 units

Preparations are underway to turn Bengaluru into Greater Bengaluru. The Karnataka Government is contemplating about the means by which Bengaluru can be given a new form. The Greater Bengaluru Authority bill is expected to be tabled in the Vidhana Sabha on 23rd July. 

Bengaluru might get split into 5 sub-regions. This bill is reported to have got the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers. The Greater Bengaluru Authority is expected to have a total area of 1400 sq.km under its jurisdiction. 1-10 corporations might be allocated across 950 sq.km. Will the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) which has a jurisdiction over 708 sq.km stand to be affected by this? The proposed bill is said to entail a proposal of establishing 400 wards in its ambit.

CM Siddaramaiah will be the President of the Greater Bengaluru Authority. 5-10 corporations are expected to be established with a Commissioner being deputed for each corporation. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) are expected to come under the control of the Greater Bengaluru Authority. BBMP may stand to get classified into North, Central, East, West and South units. Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Hosakote, Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Anekal and parts of the Bengaluru district will be included in the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
