At a time when the Karnataka government boasts and brags about Brand Bengaluru, the pathetic state of roads in the city is exposed. 

A road, near Ulsoor lake, caved in last evening (December 12). All thanks to Bengaluru police for putting up barricades around it, it has prevented accidents. Incidentally, the road was paved just last year!

What is Brand Bengaluru 

The Brand Bengaluru is a campaign that focuses on the sustainable development of the city with the help of citizen participation. 

It also aims at decongesting roads and improving mobility in the city with the help of better traffic management and innovative transportation systems, safe and sustainable infrastructure development through smart urban planning are among many other things that will be taken up by the government to make Bengaluru city, a better place to everyone.

Earlier this year, the Karnataka government had launched an online portal on June 21 to invite suggestions from city’s residents and workforce from across sectors and industries in the city on how Bengaluru could be made a better place for everyone through sustainable development.

Though the plans looks grand on paper, the depleting and declining infrastructure is not a good commentary on the government’s intention. 

If it does not fix problems such as these, citizens will be forced to wonder what the efficacy of the campaign is.
