To be banned under Dangerous Dogs Act for its threat to communities

There were 10 fatal attacks, with six involving American XL bully dogs

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced plans to ban American XL bully dogs by the end of the year due to a series of disturbing attacks.

The Prime Minister is aiming to outlaw this breed through the Dangerous Dogs Act, citing concerns about their threat to children and communities.

Sunak has initiated urgent efforts to define and prohibit this specific breed in order to put an end to these violent incidents and ensure public safety.

This decision follows a recent tragic incident in Stonnall, Staffordshire, where a 52-year-old man lost his life after being attacked by two suspected American bullies on September 14.

Sunak emphasized that this issue is not solely about a few poorly trained dogs but rather a consistent pattern of behavior that cannot be tolerated.

While acknowledging that implementing a ban will require time, Sunak explained that the absence of a clear breed definition is a challenge.

Law enforcement and experts have been assigned the task of resolving this issue, with the aim of enabling the government to prohibit these dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act before the year’s end.

Over the past five years, dog attacks have risen by 34%, escalating from 16,394 incidents in 2018 to 21,918 in the previous year.

In 2022, there were 10 fatal attacks, with six of them involving American XL bully dogs.
