The Green Star rating system, a brainchild of BWSSB, aims to promote water-saving practices by encouraging entities to adhere to the “pancha sutras” or five principles of water conservation. By achieving Green Star ratings, these establishments not only pledge to curtail water consumption but also actively contribute to enhancing water sufficiency in the region.

Outlined by BWSSB, the five principles of water conservation entail:

  1. Implementing water-conserving technologies.
  2. Increasing the utilization of treated water.
  3. Employing technology for borewell management.
  4. Embracing rainwater harvesting and digging recharge pits.
  5. Disseminating awareness among patrons visiting these establishments.

BWSSB has reiterated its commitment to organizing further programs to gradually engage all consumers in this water-saving campaign, thereby fostering a culture of sustainable water usage across Bengaluru.
