BJP and RSS have converted a religious ceremony into a State sponsored event: CPI(M)

Invitations were sent to all but only those called by Lord Ram will come: Meenakshi Lekhi

Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi have also been invited

Invitations for the inauguration of Ram Mandir were extended to political leaders across the spectrum. However some leaders have declined the invitation. Secretary general of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) Sitaram Yechury is one among them. “The CPI(M) General Secretary Comrade Sitaram Yechury has received an invitation to attend the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The CPI(M) policy has been to respect religious beliefs and safeguard the right of every individual to pursue their belief. It believes that religion is a personal choice not to be converted into an instrument for political gain. Therefore, we will not be attending the ceremony. It is most unfortunate that the BJP and RSS have converted a religious ceremony into a State sponsored event directly involving the Prime Minister, the UP Chief Minister and other government functionaries. A fundamental principle of governance in India as reiterated by the Supreme Court is that the State in India, under the constitution should have no religious affiliation. This is being violated by the ruling regime in the organisation of the event,” A statement from the CPI(M) politburo mentioned.

Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi has responded to the statement. “Invitations were sent to all but only those called by Lord Ram will come,” she stated. Invitations have also been extended to Congress leaders such Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Adhir Ranjan Choudhary. Whether or not they would participate in the event is unclear at the moment. Veteran leaders of the BJP such as Murli Manohar Joshi and LK Advani have also been invited.
