Bengaluru Railway Division plans for a railway terminal in Devanahalli

Estimated at Rs 2,500 crore, project's feasibility study nears completion

Chosen location, likely 4 to 5 km from current Devanahalli Halt station

The Bengaluru Railway Division contemplates alleviating congestion in the city’s key railway stations with plans for a railway terminal in Devanahalli, complete with maintenance facilities. Estimated at Rs 2,500 crore, the project’s feasibility study nears completion, as per reports.

Under the Viksit Bharat initiative, the terminal is envisioned across 200 acres, featuring a minimum of 10 platforms. This development aims to ease the burden on saturated stations like KSR Bengaluru, Yeshwanthpur, and Bengaluru Cantonment.

The chosen location, likely 4 to 5 km from the current Devanahalli Halt station, awaits land availability confirmation. Approval from the Railway Board and subsequently the Union Cabinet is imperative due to the substantial investment.

Part of the proposed 287-km circular railway project for Bengaluru, the terminal’s construction will proceed independently, without delay for the larger project. Plans include connecting it to nearby stations via bypass rail routes.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw’s circular railway project, announced in November last year, aims to link Nidvanda, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Malur, Heelalige, and Solur, concluding at Nidvanda. This initiative aligns with the terminal’s objectives, facilitating streamlined train movement once operational. Currently, feasibility studies for both projects are ongoing.
